The playing season for the Carbery underage hurling squads starts NEXT WEEK, with a 3-day camp, running from Monday January 4th to Wednesday January 6th for U14, U15 and U16 players.  Sessions will take place over three consecutive days, at the Astroturf / indoor facilities at the convent in Clonakilty (take the turning opposite the Texaco station on the Cork road) and will run at the following times daily:

U14 hurling

U15 hurling

U16 hurling

Mon 10am-12noon

Mon 12 -2pm

Mon 2-4pm

Tues 10am-12noon

Tues 12 -2pm

Tues 2-4pm

Wed 10am-12noon

Wed 12 -2pm

Wed 2-4pm

The U14 sessions are open to all players who wish to try out for this year’s squad, particularly those who were present for the session in Enniskeane two months ago.

Meanwhile, the U15 and U16 sessions will incorporate players from last year’s U14 & U15 squads, respectively. However, Clubs can send further players forward if they wish.

We hope that all players who wish to take part are available and Clubs can phone me at any time to discuss any individual situations.

In order to plan the sessions effectively, we will need to know the numbers attending from each Club at each age level. Therefore I would greatly appreciate it if Club secretaries could let me know what players arecoming from your Club .

Carbery development officer Fergal Keohane has also requested that Clubs ask various mentors if they would have an interest in assisting with these squads for 2010. Of course, the Cork squads are also on the lookout for selectors / mentors from all divisions.

While a small number of players from all squads will graduate to the Cork Schools of Excellence / Development Squads subsequently,we, in Carbery, see our own squads as an essential tool in raising the standards in our own division and that will be where our focus remains in the immediate term. As the year progresses, attention will also be paid to physical development, nutrition etc, however the man aims of this camp will be centred on skill development and getting to know the players / coaches /selectors involved.

Club coaches are welcome to visit at any time over the 3 days to watch sessions or to help out.
